The short answer
No. In 2026, you cannot meaningfully book a one-on-one clinical appointment with Dr. Mark Hyman himself. If a site claims otherwise, be suspicious.
Now the useful version.
What his clinical footprint actually looks like in 2026
There are three distinct things people conflate when they ask this question:
1. The UltraWellness Center (Lenox, MA)
Hyman founded the UltraWellness Center in 2006. It's an integrative/functional clinic and it is still actively seeing patients — but the clinical care is delivered by a team of associate physicians, nurse practitioners, nutritionists, and health coaches. Not by Hyman personally.
Practical reality:
- Multi-month waitlists are typical.
- Out-of-pocket cost is significant. It's not in most insurance networks.
- The clinic is in western Massachusetts; many patients travel.
- New patient workups are thorough and well-organized.
If you want UltraWellness-style care without the geography or waitlist, that's the gap our Foundation program fills.
2. Function Health
Function Health is the venture-backed lab-testing membership Hyman co-founded and is Chief Medical Officer of. It is not a 1:1 clinical service. You get:
- A semi-annual broad lab panel (100+ biomarkers).
- An AI-augmented dashboard explaining results.
- Some lightweight "next steps" guidance.
You do not get an actual relationship with a clinician — Hyman or otherwise — for your specific case. That's by design. It's a tech-enabled testing product, not a medical practice.
3. The Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine
He co-founded it and remains a senior advisor. Active patient care there is delivered by Cleveland Clinic staff, not Hyman. The Cleveland Clinic FM program also has long waits and is not always covered by insurance.
Why this matters
People search "does Mark Hyman see patients" for one of three reasons:
- They want him specifically as their doctor. Practically impossible in 2026. Accept that and move on.
- They want his model of care from someone. That's reasonable. Multiple integrative clinicians can deliver Hyman-level Level 1 functional medicine. The trick is finding one that also has bandwidth for your actual case.
- They want better than Hyman's model. For complex chronic cases — long Lyme, mold, BII, autoimmune that won't quit — you actually want a clinician working more than just Level 1. That's a different specialization.
What to do instead
If you wanted "Hyman, but available this month"
Honestly, you want an experienced functional medicine clinician who keeps a small panel — the opposite of the platform model. Foundation is built for exactly this profile: real labs, a real clinician, a real protocol, and someone you can ask follow-up questions.
If you wanted "Hyman, but for a complex case"
You don't. You want a clinician trained in biological medicine, ART, biotoxin protocols, and family-systems work — which is a different specialization than Hyman's. That's the Private Concierge lane.
If you just want the test panel
Buy Function Health. It's good. Then bring the results to a clinician who will actually do something with them, because the dashboard alone isn't a treatment plan.
The honest editorial take
The "celebrity functional doctor" pattern — Hyman, Cole, the long tail behind them — has a structural problem: the more famous they get, the less they see real patients. That's not a moral failure. It's arithmetic.
But it does mean the people searching their name and hoping to book an appointment are usually the people who'd benefit most from a quieter clinic with an experienced clinician and an open slot next Tuesday.
We're one of those.
