Drs. Nicole Rivera and Nick Carruthers heard those words a thousand times. So in 2009, they did the thing nobody in their guild was doing — they opened an integrative practice for the patients other doctors couldn't help. Not a clinic-of-the-future. A clinic-of-right-now.
Fifteen years later, that practice had become a 6,000 sq ft multi-practitioner clinic on the East Coast and one of the largest independent integrative medicine operations in the region. They saw 30,000+ cases the system had given up on. They trained thousands of clinicians. They ran the kind of waitlist most MDs only dream about.
Then, in 2023, they did the second thing nobody expected: they tore the whole building down. Closed the doors. Walked away from the lease, the staff, the proven revenue. And spent two years building one of the first AI-personalized precision integrative medicine platforms in consumer health.
Because the building was the cage. The system could only ever serve the patients who could afford to drive to the building. Software could serve the black sheep, anywhere.
