The Physiology of Survival
Conventional medicine often views PTSD as a purely psychological event. We see it as a biological imprint. What Your Symptoms Are Signaling
Symptoms like insomnia, anxiety, and irritability aren't the problem; they are signals. They tell us that your HPA Axis—the communication line between your brain and your adrenal glands—is stuck in an active feedback loop. Your body is pumping out stress hormones even when you are sitting on your couch.
Digestive issues often accompany this state because the body deprioritizes 'rest and digest' functions when it thinks it is under attack. Why the Conventional Model Misses the Mark
The standard approach typically relies on talk therapy or medication to numbing the response. While these can be tools, they often fail to address the somatic storage of trauma. You cannot simply talk your way out of a nervous system that is physically wired for threat. If the body still carries the chemical signature of the event, the mind will follow.
We also see trauma mislabeled as generalized anxiety or even ADHD. When the nervous system is overstimulated, focus becomes impossible. By focusing only on the behavioral symptoms, the underlying physiological dysregulation is allowed to fester, leading to long-term systemic exhaustion.
The Root-Cause Drivers We Look For
Trauma doesn't happen in a vacuum. We look at the 'terrain' that either helps or hinders your ability to process stress. This includes:
- Neurotransmitter imbalances: The chemical messengers that dictate mood and calm.
- Nutrient deficiencies: Stress burns through magnesium, B vitamins, and zinc at an accelerated rate.
- Gut-brain axis health: Inflammatory markers in the gut can keep the brain in a state of 'sickness behavior' or high alarm.
We also investigate heavy metal burdens or chronic infections that may be taxing the nervous system, making it less resilient to emotional stressors. A body that is already fighting an internal battle has less capacity to handle external trauma.
Evaluating the Trauma Response
