Why You Wake Up at 3AM in a Panic: Melatonin, Brain Detox and Your Dreams

Hello everyone, welcome back to another episode of Integrative View Radio. We are talking about a fun one today that I think might be relatable to a lot of people. I only say this because one, we've heard this many, many times over in the 15 years of practice. over our own phases of learning and understanding the mind and body, our response and our answer to the root causes of this has evolved. primarily because in the beginning of of our practice, we really stayed more in the the biochemical lane of, you know, here are the root causes that are more based in the physical body. And we started to learn a lot more about the mind and the subconscious, especially when it comes to stress, triggers, overwhelm, dreams, which we're gonna talk about today. Part of this conversation was stimulated by a dinner out that I had with some new friends. And they were talking about the the fact that they're all sharing a hotel room. so they're all, you know, seeing each other's sleep behaviors. And all of them are waking up at, you know, two in the morning, three in the morning, somewhere in that that time frame. And a lot of them are waking up with a a sense of overwhelm, worry, fear, and and even panic. Some nights. And instead of really thinking about this, of like, is this food related, or is this, you know, too much alcohol, too much caffeine, or something along those lines, there's there's more to it. And the two major avenues that we're going to talk about today is actually the biochemical process of your brain detoxifying at night, one of the roles of melatonin. So we're gonna talk more about that, which we've talked about in robust detail in other podcasts. so if you wanna listen to even more depth about it, I highly recommend listening to the podcast called Your Brain Can't Poop. That's what we named it. But the other aspect that we're we're gonna talk about is the subconscious processing that is happening when you sleep. So essentially, all the thoughts that run in the back of your brain. through all your days and all your life that trigger you or make you get worried or make you get scared. They're not in your conscious mind, so you're not like, it was this. They're programs and patterns from your past experiences that creep up and your mind is usually trying to process them when you sleep. One of the reasons why dreams are so important, because they're actually telling you what your brain is trying to process. But when you don't get the memo or you don't understand what your dreams are doing, how they work for you and what they mean, you usually just keep having the cycle run and run and run and run, and your subconscious sabotages all the things that you want and desire. So we're gonna get into it. Let's start with the the biochemical and then we'll get into the the fun stuff for me. Okay. So biochemically, this is actually really interesting. You're okay, let me actually preface with this really quick. If you wake up in the morning and you have brain fog, you're just like, like I need to dust the cobwebs off my brain. It takes about a half an hour or an hour. Or you're like, I can't even talk to you until I have my cup of coffee. You also might wake up with a little bit of a low-grade headache, maybe in your forehead. You wake up with really puffy eyes. Maybe your whole face is puffy. And again, about a half an hour, 45 minutes, an hour later, face starts to drain, your puffy eyes become less, maybe they go away, your headache starts to dissipate, and your brain gets back online. This is the typical symptoms of your brain is not detoxing properly. And for those of you that are like, What are you talking about? What's in my brain that's toxic? So one, you've heard of gut brain access, many of you. There is a big connection with your gut and your brain. Hate to break it to you guys, but most of the food and water you drink is fucking toxic. Most of the medications that you take are fucking toxic. Your Tylenol, your ibuprofen, your acetaminophen is toxic. There is shit coming from every single angle. This isn't about alcohol. This isn't about dyes. Yes, those are problematic. But this is about the majority of what is going into your mouth that is potentially connected to toxicity. But there are certain chemicals that we get exposed to that are neurotoxic. If you're the canned tuna person, you eat a boatload of fish, tuna, salmon, swordfish, shark, which not many people eat, you're a sushi connoisseur, then you probably have mercury in your system, which is a neurotoxin. There is mercury in vaccines. Most of us have had those at some point in our lives. There is aluminum that is in your deodorant. The list goes on. The point is that there's toxins in your gut that can work their way up your vagus nerve into your brain. Then there is all of the chemicals and toxins that can be in close proximity to your brain from a variety of dental materials and dental work and your fluoride mouthwash and your fluoride toothpaste and your weird chemicals like propylene glycol that are in the nasal sprays that you use. Shall I go on, guys? So there is a reason why there would be toxins in your brain. This is not us just fucking pulling this out of our ass, because also we've seen it over 15 years. Some people it's more abundant, some people it's less. But the key is that yes, your body is designed, your brain is designed to detox. One of the dual factors of melatonin, and it's very intentional, is melatonin helps you sleep. Some of you maybe have dabbled in it. If you've dabbled in melatonin and you got a bad headache or you slept like shit or you had wacky ass dreams, that is because it was detoxifying your brain. So melatonin helps you, goes up at night, helps you get to sleep, and then it goes to work on detoxing your brain, detoxing your glial system. But the thing is, is that the venous system is draining everything down and it's dumping it into your giant veins behind your collarbone, and then your immune system takes over and it starts to eradicate out these toxins. But a lot of people have roadblocks. Those roadblocks are inflamed sinuses. Those roadblocks are inf inflamed nerves or sinuses because of dental work, inflamed roots of their teeth, inflamed lymphanodes in their neck, chronically enlarged glands like tonsils. If you don't have tonsils, that's worse. You have a jacked-up neck. Your neck is always problematic. Maybe you have a fusion of your neck. Maybe you've had a bunch of head injuries where now the cranial bones have shifted. All of these things play a role. One, let alone if you have a compounding of like I've had head injuries, I've had neck injuries, I've had whiplash, I have bad sinuses, I've had a boatload of root canals. They're all playing a role in blocking the drainage and detoxification of your brain. So The more toxins that sit in the glial system of your brain and even the venous system of your brain, then the more pressure builds, the more compromised your melatonin usage is. And you have wacky ass dreams. Maybe you have vivid dreams. And you also are starting to have low grade things like I can't remember where I put my keys, I can't remember people's names, I don't remember childhood memories. There's a lot of factors with that. But it is typically a symptom when your brain is not detoxifying properly. that don't know really quick, your glial system is your lymphatic system of your brain. yes, yes. So your you have your lymph system for also those that don't know what the heck that means, your body has three major ways of getting rid of bad stuff. Your liver is a filter and it gets rid of everything through your poop. Then you have your kidneys, which gets things out of your body through your urination, and then your lymphatic system works directly with your immune system, and that is going to be your third filtration. And eradication system. If you are a person with skin issues, the skin essentially some call it the third kidney, some say it's the path of least resistance when all three pathways are blocked. But you will have skin issues when you cannot filter and detox through those major pathways. So, in reality, to keep it simple for you guys. a lot of the people that we work with, that's a huge focus for us. It's not about kill, kill, kill, do all of these things to target the things we found. It's why don't we get your body actually doing what it used to do really well, but now it's so overloaded and all the filters are clogged. And now you can't, your body just can't do it properly. It's like having a pool filter and you just never dump the filter. Eventually it's gonna be like, it doesn't work. You don't rip it out and get a new one. You just dump the filter and you move on. Same idea with the body. But you have to determine which filter or filters are the problem. And lymphatic is definitely a key factor when it comes to different issues with the brain, different issues with you waking up with panic in the middle of the night. Because the other thing that I didn't mention is your melatonin goes up. through the night to keep to get you to sleep, keep you to sleep. And the the thing that wakes you up is cortisol, the fucking hormone that everybody's talking about. And it's like, I got my cortisol belly. Yeah, there's lots of layers with cortisol. But if your cortisol spikes too early because your melatonin is depleted by two or three in the morning, it's depleted because it was working in fucking overtime to try to detox your brain. And essentially it's like it got used up. So now your cycle, your whole circadian cycle, your melatonin into cortisol cycle is messed up. So now your cortisol is spiking earlier. It usually is gonna spike around five, six in the morning. Now it's spiking at two, three in the morning. And you're getting up with this sense of panic or overwhelm or racy mind. But there's another layer to it. You wanna start or you want me to go? I'll start. I'll I'll I'll start because I'll give and then you can go and then I can get really deep. so for and this is something that took me a long time to to know because it's not common, is that you know, you talked about the subconsciousness. The subconsciousness is your body. So we actually have three different levels of consciousness. Most people think we just have a consciousness and then when we sleep. We fall into a subconscious state and the consciousness goes offline. But there's a third state, which is actually your superconsciousness. So if you were to actually visualize this, consciousness would be in the middle, sub below, subconsciousness is below the mind, the conscious mind, and superconscious is above, supra, above. Every single moment we're perceiving different experiences. And when that experience Is in a state of balance. Hence, we perceive an equal amount of good and an equal amount of bad. There's an equal amount of benefits, an equal amount of drawbacks. When we perceive that balance, there's no stress response. We actually perceive everything as actually being perfect in that moment. Hence, we're grateful for that moment. We don't want to change anything. When we're grateful, that consciousness, that moment, goes up to our superconsciousness, which is stored in pretty much love and gratitude. But if we perceive out of balance, aka, we perceive more good or more bad, more benefits or more drawbacks. When this imbalance occurs, that gets heavy. That heaviness drops down to our subconsciousness because we haven't processed it in the state of balance or equanimity. So the body holds on to that information. And if you look at like Chinese medicine or just the psychosomatic connection between the mind and the body, There's a resonance to every single organ system. So those imbalances get stored in different organ systems. Hence, there's a connection between your mind and what the body expresses itself. If we can't rooted in embryology too, based off of new germatic medicine. I wanna throw that sidebar in. There's a lot of different ways. When if we don't take the time at the end of our day, week, or et cetera, and our crazy busy schedule to go back and balance those imbalanced moments out, the body finally gets to a point, mainly through our dreams, because that's when the consciousness goes offline and the subconsciousness goes online. We'll start dreaming through usually it's in a symbolic format, movie, et cetera, that we experience. And it's our subconsciousness that's trying to bring back into the consciousness to say, hey, I need some help here. I need some assistance. The shitty part of that is, is because we didn't balance it out the first time, which didn't feel good, now we experience it again and it still doesn't feel good because we had an imbalanced relationship with it. And if that stress is big enough or has gone on long enough, the autonomic nervous system freaks out and we can wake up having a panic attack or an extreme fear. And, you know, initially the animalistic part of us is like, whoa, I don't this feels really bad. I don't want to feel this. I want to stop this. What's the easiest way to stop something? Well, I'm not going to associate with it. I'm going to remove myself with it from it. But you can't because it's actually a part of you. And that part of you was actually coming up to set yourself free. But because we haven't been taught this and understand this process, we try to disassociate from ourselves, from that problem, instead of actually saying, well, yeah, this fucking sucks. It doesn't feel good, but it's actually an opportunity for me to go through and balance out the benefits with the drawbacks, the good with the bad. And when we can do that, that's when we set it free. That's when we set ourselves free because we take that moment that we perceived was bad, and then we balance it out through it's out actually a perfect moment. And there's nothing I need to change. And I perceive gratitude, I perceive love, and we transcend that moment back to our super consciousness, and that's what sets us free. That's what removes the effects of of panic, of fear, of all these different emotions. Because we've transformed it. I I I a hundred percent agree, but I want to I want people to understand that you might be on your own personal growth journey and hence why you're here and you may be going to you know all different types of conferences and seminars and reading books and audiobooks, and you might be very very aware of the things that don't serve you in this moment do serve you, you know, what pisses you off, what doesn't piss you off, what you find toxic, what you don't. But a lot of us have already navigated These experiences from when we were very young with limited to no tools. And I know personally that I thought, well, my life is different now. I don't even think about those things. They're irrelevant. And essentially, what we're we're helping you to understand is that they're not irrelevant, especially if you find that the things that happen happen to you or the things that you experience. Tend to have a similar theme. There is a lot of times people have a theme of loss, or they have a theme of abandonment, or they have a theme of things don't work out. My business has failed. It's hard to hire good people. Like it could be any area of life. But there's something that trained that from your past experiences. There's a person, there is an event. There's something that trained that program. And it could have been what you heard over and over in church. It could have been what you heard over and over with your parents. It could have been what you observed with someone else that you trusted in your life. And this starts to shape how we look at life. And there is this woman who she does some really interesting coaching and manifestation work, but she's rooted in neuroscience. And I just love that stuff. So I'm such a dork when I listen to her. But she said something, and I'll probably bastardize a little bit, but essentially what she was saying is that when we look at the world, you know, we're pretty much looking at it in like one megapixel. And she's like, and for an example, your phone is like two hundred megapixels. She's like, So essentially what we see and how it goes into our brain, we distort it pa based off of our beliefs and based off of our program, our subconscious programs. And she's like, this is why you can look at something, a situation, and someone else can look at it, and have two different feelings about it, two different perceptions about it, two different outcomes from it. And I was like, that's super interesting and how we will literally distort information. A stupid, stupid example can literally be that, you know, someone's like, thank you. And one person's like, did you hear how rude they were? Did you hear how they said that? And then the other person's like, I think they just said thank you. It's just it's like, what lens are you looking at it from? Are you looking at it from people are assholes? Are you looking at it from like people who are are are kind? You know, it it's just the lens that you look at life from can really dictate how you perceive. But a sense this is a funny quick moment. It's kind of like when your dad told me to fuck off. I I came from I came from the lens of fuck man, like I'm I'm no no no no no but I came from the lens of like you know fuck you like but what it really meant was you're part of the family like I and I didn't understand at all the you know the American Italians Okay, let me preface here. I am from Jersey. My dad is originally from the Bronx, and Nick is from Iowa. And trying to explain the way we show love from a Jersey New Yorker perspective is not the easiest for anyone to understand, especially if you are not from that area. And so my dad got tanked on our graduation from school. Nick are Nick and I are like newly dating, and I get home to Nick being so mad, like Red in the face and I'm like, What? He's like, Your dad told me to go fuck myself and I'm just sitting there in the moment. I'm like, How the fuck do I explain this one? He was so mad, I'm like, I really don't even Yeah. I'm just like, I don't really know how this is gonna land. We're just gonna let it s let it die here. Let's see what we can do in the morning. So so yeah, another fun example there. but the the point of what we're trying to tell you is that if you are a person that has a tendency to wake up in the middle of the night and you are in a state of where a fear, panic, and you know, or any emotion in between, you actually really need to take note of what were you dreaming about? Like, even if you can remember an aspect of it and start to jot it down. And you can use our Inspo app for a proper dream decode and analysis because the clarity that you get from what your dreams are telling you is really going to help you understand the shit that's still holding you back in your life. I literally had a dream that I processed a little while ago, and it ended up being about my old business model. And when I decoded it, I just had this moment of being like, holy crap, like in my in my mind, in my conscious mind, I thought that I have moved past that, that has been as resolved, evolved. And there were still elements of it lurking in my subconscious that were keeping me very stuck and very paralyzed. And it wasn't that I had a magic potion after that. I had that level of awareness of, okay, that is still lingering. And the fact that I'm aware of that now allows me to be more conscious to where I might be that might be blocking me in my current business initiatives and my current business endeavors. And did I leverage some different things in our app, like meditation and journaling? Yes, because it tells you what to do. but I will say that 50% of that is really just that level of awareness of what your dream is actually telling you. One of the things we love doing is when people have. Reoccurring dreams. This is one of the questions in our paperwork when we work with people privately. Is like, do you have recurring dreams? And do you have dreams that are always a theme? You're always falling, you're always stuck, you're always dying, whatever it may be, your teeth are always falling out. And we find that it directly correlates to very particular themes that are in their current reality that they don't understand. They're like, why does this keep happening to me? Why does you know this keep failing? Or why do I keep giving up on this? And it goes back to what those dreams have been telling them about what's keeping them stuck because their subconscious is fucking running the show in the background. And that alone, people are like, holy shit, that makes so much sense. And they have this huge level of relief through clarity, which is a really, really cool moment that we see with a lot of our clients. Yeah, it's I mean, people they everybody wants to live a better life, but the what holds us back is clarity and awareness. And I think like you said, you said fifty percent. I I think that might even be eighty percent. Because once you know what to actually take action on, it's really not that hard. It's just what's hard is not knowing what to take action on because nobody's like taking the time to really guide you into what the root causes, you know. It's like, here's a symptom. Do this. Let's let's combat the symptom. But the symptoms gonna keep coming back if you have to take medication for years or months and you've or even supplements. Like it's the same fucking shit. Like you shouldn't have to take something forever to combat a symptom because you're actually never working on the root cause. You know, the symptom is the effect. What what's the causation of that effect? That's what we need to be working on. And our body's always trying to tell us what that effect or what that causes. And a lot of the times, you know, we're getting this when we're able to step away from our conscious mind and our subconscious is giving that gift for us. That gift, like I said, doesn't always feel good. Sometimes it comes up in a panic attack or fear. But if we can pause and even go back to those moments even and gather that awareness, gather that data, and then use that, that's that's what gives us The clarity, clarity builds confidence. Confidence allows us to take action to be who we truly are, not be that version of ourselves that's creating that causation for the effects we don't want. And really at the bare minimum of what we're saying, some of you might say, Wow, this makes a lot of sense. I want to tackle it all. And some of you might say, you know, not right now, but it's the idea of if you are sick and you have a series of symptoms and your mind goes to the place of like, holy shit, I'm dying. Like I am, I I what if I I think I have cancer? Like you you go to the worst case scenario. Then you go in to the doctor and they say, No, you're fine. Automatically there is a massive shift in you. Because that there's a level of relief. And that relief changes your mind, which actually will change the biochemical state of your body. So, what I'm what I'm trying to say is that if you do wake up in panic in the middle of the night or worry or fear, just you now knowing that that is actually working for you, it's essentially one telling you that. Your melatonin and cortisol is imbalanced. There's a biochemical reason behind it. And it's also helping you to understand that your body, your mind, and your body is actually ready to process some old challenges, limitations, stucks, triggers, cycles that now you can look at it from a different lens and say, This is me actually trying to heal. So why don't I actually ask better questions and pay attention to what My brain was actually trying to process tonight and write that shit down, go back to sleep, figure it out in the morning. Welcome to me and my style of being a doctor. There's a there's a reason I do the mental emotional work in the in the business. Gosh, here we go. So, guys, we hope this was insightful. and what's interesting too, for those of you who go, my god, I have fucking nightmares, horror, like horrible, like really, really scary stuff. You if you use our Info app, you can get a 14 day trial for free. If you use it and you decode, you'll find that it doesn't mean what you think it means. Like if you're getting murdered or anything, doesn't mean like something really bad is about to happen to you. W our app is actually our decoder is a combination of Carl Jung, Freud, New Germanic Medicine. It's a com compilation of some of the best minds geniuses, what that Dr. Nick that came together. We brought it all together because they all have different ways of looking at it and it's all valuable. But overall it it's helping you really understand what your your brain is trying to process. And so you what you perceive as really scary, you know, nightmares is is not as black and white. So that's where the decoder comes in. It really helps you understand, you know, what is your subconscious truly trying to to process. So we hope you guys have the opportunity to check it out. It's really, really awesome. And when it comes to the other aspects of the biochemical, please guys don't go start taking melatonin because that's not the solution. That is a band-aid. It also can speed up brain detoxification, which can actually create a lot of problems if you have very harmful chemicals in your brain. And two, you have to, it's not about what you do, it's about how you do it. When you're dealing with the brain, the neurological systems and detoxing the brain, you have to remove all roadblocks. So this is about supporting your kidneys and your liver. And your lymphatics, making sure your neck is not jacked up, making sure your sinuses are supported, and making sure that you're taking things that actually properly eradicate toxins out and it doesn't just stir them up and create different problems. So I know that you guys always are looking for us to give you like the one supplement or the one thing, but I hate to break it to you. We're never gonna do that on these podcasts. It's a matter of you getting more data about your body, about your mind, and leveraging that so you don't wait, waste fucking time and money. We're very big on not wasting people's time or money because you guys are most of the time you're here because you already did that. My my most recent client, she's like, I've been postponing working with you. I spent 30,000 already. And I'm not better. I'm like, well, yeah, I've heard that before. So stop wasting time and money, guys. All right, we're gonna leave it there. Nick's got nothing to say. See you on the next one. Ciao.
