    She had every POTS symptom.POTS was never the problem.

    A 23-year-old engineering student lost ovarian tissue to necrosis, then lost the ability to stand. The chart said POTS. The root causes were an autoimmune clotting disorder and a compressed renal vein — and only a full data extraction found them.

      A 23-year-old engineering student under relentless stress

      High-performing, high-pressure degree, running on very little recovery. Nothing about her looked like a vascular patient — which is exactly why nobody looked.

    2. The event

      Ovarian surgery. 'Torsion caused the necrosis.'

      She lost ovarian tissue to necrosis. The explanation given was torsion — a mechanical twist. It was a tidy answer that closed the file and asked no further questions.

    3. The label

      POTS symptoms begin

      Racing heart on standing, lightheadedness, crushing fatigue, brain fog, exercise intolerance. She met the POTS criteria completely. The label described her perfectly and explained nothing.

      From symptoms to a wheelchair

    Why It Held For So Long

    POTS is a description, not a cause.

    A diagnosis of exclusion becomes a diagnosis of convenience. Once it is on the chart, the search stops — and everything that follows is symptom management of a mechanism nobody identified.

    POTS is a description of what the autonomic nervous system is doing, not an explanation of why. In this case the patient met every POTS criterion, but the drivers were antiphospholipid syndrome (an autoimmune clotting disorder) and Nutcracker syndrome (compression of the left renal vein). Treating the label alone never resolves the mechanism underneath it.
