**Unknown:** Welcome to Integrative U Radio, hosted by Dr. Nick Carruthers and yours truly, Dr. Nicole Rivera. This is the place where you become limitless.
**Unknown:** We are covering the latest and greatest topics, of course, in a disruptive fashion, around integrative medicine, mental health, and human behavior. We are also covering how those topics affect the human and family dynamics. We will be sprinkling in some truth bombs for our healthpreneurs, so they can join us in our mission to evolve healthcare. If you are health curious and growth focused, you are in the right place.
**Unknown:** But buckle up, because this is real, this is raw, and this is disruptive. This is Integrative U Radio. Hello, everyone. Welcome back to another episode of Integrative U Radio.
**Unknown:** So very funny, I am bulk recording for you guys because I'm going to Italy, and I just did a podcast about the, about the appendix and appendicitis. And I was, of course, went on a tangent about family history. And it got me thinking about a quote that I saw the other day, which I would love to talk about in a different podcast, but it was, "Generational wealth only takes one risk taker." And I thought about this idea of generational health only takes one bold family member. And I say this for so many reasons, but the rant that I went on in the previous podcast about family history is, we're told that the biggest advancements that are happening in medicine is all about genetics, genetic research.
**Unknown:** And is that really true? Is that really what is going to move the needle? Because at the end of the day, are we researching genetics just so we can create more vaccines? And are we really researching genetics because that is what's going to help change the trajectory of global health?
**Unknown:** And really what I've learned over the past 12 years is that health isn't that complicated. And a lot of what we do with people is get them back to basic shit, and because we've gotten so far removed from the things that allow us to be well. We, we work so hard, we hustle, we have no downtime. You know, we wear our busyness like a badge of honor.
**Unknown:** We think that we're, we're tough and resilient because we can handle lots of stress. You know, we will say, we'll, we'll rave about our success even though we're burnt out, we're divorced, and our kids hate us. You know, we, we wear the, the badge of busyness as we eat out every single meal, but we feel good about it 'cause we could afford to eat out every single meal. And we feel like, "Oh, well, if I just do it a little longer, and then I'll finally be able to pull back, take the step back, and enjoy life." But so many of us reprogram our genetics, we reprogram our biochemistry based off of this lifestyle, that it's almost impossible to slow down and to recalibrate our nervous system and to regain our health.
**Unknown:** Because we have created a lot of bad habits, but we've actually imprinted those habits on our neurological system. So we've literally created neurological programs that s- that keep us trapped in this perpetual cycle. And when you look at so many other cultures, and especially if you wanna dive into the cultures of centenarians, this is what they call the blue zones, and these are people that have lived past 100. They're thought to be the healthiest people in the world.
**Unknown:** And you look at their lives, it's so basic. They l- they literally still spend time with people they love. They laugh. They play games that stimulate their brain.
**Unknown:** They're not always on computers. They're, they literally play board games, they play music, they play instruments. They get outside. They have some type of practice, if that is farming or gardening or cooking.
**Unknown:** They use their hands. They get their hands dirty. They don't cut corners when it comes to nourishing themselves. AKA, they sit down to eat food.
**Unknown:** They actually prep their food from scratch. Yeah, they soak the beans. They don't put, get them from a can. It's basic, basic things.
**Unknown:** They sit and think. Some of them meditate, some of them just sit and think. They reflect. They think about their day.
**Unknown:** They think about how they felt. They think about the wisdom they've gained from their lives. They have conversations with people without being distracted from phones and social media. It's basic, basic stuff.
**Unknown:** So really, the, the goal of this podcast is to help you understand that, first of all, your health is not super out of reach. Number two is you are sure as hell not doomed based off of your family history and your genetics. Your genetics change. That's what I was talking about before.
**Unknown:** You will have genes turn on or offDepending on your environment and your circumstances So if you want-- let's take a very, very specific example here If you are chronically so fucking stressed out, you are stressed out beyond belief, you, you're having anxiety, panic attacks guess what? You're turning cancer cells on and you're turning the cells that regulate your immune system off And I'm-- listen, I'm not gonna sit here and say that because you're chronically stressed, you're, you're a hundred percent gonna get cancer. That's not the point. That's not what I'm saying.
**Unknown:** What I'm saying is you're turning on disease-oriented genes and you're turning off health-promoting genes. Um, stress is part of this, but also some people are chronically stressed. They're stressed every day of their lives. They hate their job.
**Unknown:** They hate their spouse. They hate, you know, th-they just hate life And then there's other people, they just had one or, or a few high emotional magnitude events. They can-- we could call those PTSD, and this could have been a car accident. This could have been, you know, being deployed.
**Unknown:** This could have been the loss of a loved one. And if it was high enough magnitude, that could do the same thing. Turn genes on, turn genes off. Turn genes off that promote health, turn genes on that promote disease And these are the things that we have to understand.
**Unknown:** So you go and you wanna get your genetic test done. You wanna get your genetic test done to say, "Oh, I, I'm gonna get cancer," or, "I'm gonna get breast cancer." That's not how it works. They have done studies of twins, identical twins who have identical DNA, identical chromosomes, ident-- they're identical. They are, you know, the-- a perfect match.
**Unknown:** And they have done one thing: change the environment of the twins. So one being in an environment that promoted health, one being an environment that didn't. One being an environment where they were exercising, eating well, low stress, stimulating their brain, getting outside. Another one that is maybe smoking, not eating well, high inflammatory diet, stressed out.
**Unknown:** And they have found that the genetic expression was completely different even though they have identical DNA. So this just shows that this isn't-- you're, you are not doomed by your genes. It is a matter of how they are expressed, and how they are expressed is based off of your environment and your lifestyle factors. So you are always in the driver's seat of your health, but you are also in the driver's seat of your disease.
**Unknown:** So you have the power to change that. And yeah, there are people like me that this is what I do for a living. I help to facilitate the wisdom that I've gained and the knowledge that I have to help you start that process, because you don't know what you don't know. But the goal is never for you to rely on people like me.
**Unknown:** I'm just here to give you tools and open your eyes to things that you've m-maybe never experienced before or used before. Because when it comes to helping to get your body out of that chronic stress state, how to reprogram neurological patterns that keep you stressed out, worried, in fear, that's not that easy. Having guidance, mentorship, and tools, and even biohacking equipment, that is going to put you in hyper speed in your healing process, and it's also going to allow you to create changes that happen quickly, but also they last. Because sometimes when you're in the trenches and you're s-you've been operating in such a high-stress state for so long, it's, it takes a lot to break those patterns, and honestly, I know because it was me.
**Unknown:** So overall is we have an opportunity. We have an opportunity to change not only our own health, but also to change the health for our families. Because your family, it only takes one. It only takes one bold family member to kick off the ripple effect.
**Unknown:** And this really comes down to, one, you guys all share genes, genetic profiles, because you're all blood related. And as you influence and start to improve the DNA of one, you will improve the DNA of others. If you don't know what the fuck I'm talking about, it's called quantum entanglement. Check it out.
**Unknown:** Number two is that when we talk about more of the mental, emotional, and energetic, is that it only takes one person to start to shift their mindset and their behavior and how they show up that will ripple out into the rest of the family. So you see it all the time. When you start to really, really look, you see dynamics in families. You see one parent that they call the good cop, one parent they call the bad cop.
**Unknown:** You know, the one is overly supportive, and then the other one is overly challenging. The one is overly strict, the one-- other one is overly like, do whatever you want. And as soon as one backs down a little or shifts a little, the other one will naturally shift. Because if you have one parent who's, you know, quote, unquote, the pushover, quote, unquote, the good cop, and they start to build more boundaries and they start to say, "No, we're not going to do that," the other parent doesn't have to be as strict. They don't have to be as challenging because now there's more of an even scale of energy.
**Unknown:** There's an even scale in the, the dynamics of the family. So it's such a amazing thing to watch because this is based on the principles of human behavior, which are rooted in the principles of quantum physics. So at the end of the day, if one person decides to embark on changing their health, they're going to show up differently, which is going to then ripple out to the rest of the family members. And then obviously there's more of the, the tangible parts of this is, you know, if one parent is eating healthier and there's more healthy options in the house, then obviously kids, husbands, wives, they might embark on eating healthier because like, wow, this actually tastes good.
**Unknown:** But really at the end of the day, the empowerment that comes along with taking the reins on your health is something that becomes infectious to the others around you. Wow, mom has so much more energy. Wow, mom's not as mad as she used to be. Wow, dad is so much more present and he's having more fun with us.
**Unknown:** Like those are the things that go a long way. And when you are healthier and you feel better in your own skin and you are not as stressed, your health goes up, but also you are going to show up differently for the people that you love the most. So the point is, is that it only takes one bold family member to change many generations of health before and after them. And always remember that you are 100% in the driver's seat of your health, but you're also in the driver's seat of your disease because it's not about your genes.
**Unknown:** It's not about your family history. It's about how your genes express based off of your choices, your lifestyle, and your environment.
